The magazine advert I chose to use is an advertisement for Lana Del Rey's album 'Born to Die.' The album itself is an alternative pop album that is mainly focused on the song writing skills of Del Rey and the atmosphere she creates when combining her lyrics with dramatic music production. This is a possible genre that my music video may use in the future so I feel it is fitting to use this advertisement.
The advertisement itself has a picture of Del Rey in the centre of the advert to create iconography for the artist so viewers will be able to recognise her face on her album cover when wanting to purchase her album. It is worth noting that the image used in the advert is the exact same image on the cover of her album which makes it easier for readers to find her album online or in a store.
The text in the advert is also centralised like Del Rey in the advert with the name of the artist in a large font over the image of the artist. This is done to make it a simple read for viewers of the advert and get across who the artist in the advert is clearly. It is also noticeable that the text is colour co-ordinated as the white text has a background of a blue sky whereas the blue text has Del Rey's white shirt in the background. This colour co-ordination is done to make the text easy to read and to create a professional aesthetic to the image and have a consistent image with the colours of the text matching up with the image.
The image has a very 'retro' aesthetic to it with the image being slightly grainy. The use of the vibrant colours in the image make the advertisement much more noticeable and could possibly go against the conventions of many adverts for female artists as it is not presenting Del Rey in a voyeuristic manner.
Under the blue Album title 'Born to Die' it gives information on the album's release date which is the 30th of January and lists some of the songs that are included in the album. This may have been typed in a less harsh and bold font as it may fit poorly over the image and take away from the iconography of the image. It is also worth noting that the image itself contrasts greatly with the rather dark title 'Born to Die' of the album it is promoting. This may have been done deliberately to fit in with the underlying dark themes of her album which is hidden over bright and initially happy songs.
At the bottom of the advert it can be seen the in the centre it lists the official website for the artist which readers could go to if they want more information about the artist. In the bottom right it shows the record label her album is being distributed by and in the bottom left it has the logo for Amazon.com. This may be done to give readers an idea of where they can buy Del Rey's album if they wish to purchase it.
